Hey there! I'm back with another installment of our Polyvagal Series. Last week we talked about mindfulness and Polyvagal Theory, and I introduced a body scan meditation. Today we will talk about another mindfulness practice: Gentle Self-Compassion using Self-Soothing Touch. As always, check in with yourself and only practice interventions you feel comfortable doing. You are the expert of yourself and what you need.
How to do it: Sit comfortably and place your hand over your heart, or gently hold your own hands. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths, feeling the warmth and reassurance from your touch. Repeat comforting phrases such as "I am safe" or "It is okay."
I'll be back next week to continue our discussion! Until next time, Dr. T
