The Mind-Body Connection with Polyvagal Theory Series- Part 9

Writer: Sierra TrainorSierra Trainor

Hey party people! Let's continue to delve into practices to help nourish your nervous system. Today I introduce Mindful Sound Awareness.

How to do it: Find a quiet place to sit comfortably. Perhaps you have a place outside where you can be in nature. Or, maybe you love music and can put your favorite tunes on in the background. Or even sit in silence. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Shift your focus to the sounds around you, without labeling or judging them. Just notice the sounds as they come and go. Continue this practice for 5-10 minutes. This practice is so powerful because it enhances present-moment awareness and induces a state of calm by stimulating the vagus nerve through auditory processing. Pretty cool huh!

Thanks for reading and see you next week.
